Margate will outdo itself in 2016 with the annual Fall Funfest By The Bay. The event is loaded with new entertainment and activities, including music, games, boat rides, and educational exhibits. Vendors offering food and crafts from throughout the region will be there. The area and its bars and restaurants are expected to be alive with visitors. The fun starts on Saturday, Sept. 24th from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. and continues Sunday the 25th from 11 a.m.- 5 p.m.
A dozen different bands will be featured, playing everything rock to country to reggae. Steve and Cookie’s Annual Dog Show, a Haunted Pirate Ship, live animal exhibits and a visit from Miss New Jersey are just some of the highlights visitors can expect to find on Amherst Avenue between Decatur and Coolidge Avenues, all weekend long. The night of the 24th, from 8pm to 10pm, will also feature a new event that is “Definitely Not For Kids”. Funfest After Dark, is a special adults-only event with free live music by the Mas Tequila Orchestra and wine and spirits tasting for a $20 donation.
Other attractions include a charity “Dunk-a-Cop” by Margate Police Department, proceeds to benefit Gilda’s Club, a Character Parade of pop-culture figures Batman, Darth Vader , Storm Trooper, Elsa and Kevin the Minionand children’s gymnastics and yoga demonstrations. Crafts from over 65 artisans and top-notch food will be on hand.
A free jitney will be available for festival goers, running from the parking area at the Eugene A. Tighe School at Essex and Amherst Avenues to the drop off areas at Coolidge and Decatur Avenues. A detailed listing of vendors and events can be found at Margatehasmore.com.
